Is It Your First Time at a Spa? Here Is All You Should Know
02 January 2025
Spa Breaks can be a fantastic way to relax and unwind. After all, alongside work and other commitments, we could all do with a little TLC every now and then. Despite the popularity of Spa Days going back to the Romans over a thousand years ago, it might be that you’re about to go to your first one but have no idea what to expect.
Once you know feel a little clued up (which is what we aim to do in this post) you’ll soon be full of excitement at the prospect of going to the Spa. If it’s been a few years, or if you just need a gentle nudge in the right direction - here’s all you should know about visiting.
- Researching Spa Day Deals and Treatments
Before you even start to panic about what to wear or bring to the Spa, first of all, you need to take a moment to browse through all of our spa experiences and decide what, when and where you are going to indulge in a day at the spa.
Choose from traditional Spa Days with a delicious lunch or afternoon tea, or even Massage Experiences or aromatherapy. Spend some time browsing through our website and reading through all the different packages so that you know exactly what to book for and what to think about before you get there.
- What to Bring on a Spa Day
Once you know what you’re booked in for, you can start to think about what to bring. But as a general rule of thumb for most spa Experiences, you’ll want to take the following.
Swimwear - Don’t forget the most essential item! Most Spas incorporate a mix of pool, sauna, and steam room experiences, where you’ll want to be in your most comfortable swimwear. A handy tip is to bring some spare swimwear, so you can always change into something fresh in between treatments and not have to endure a soggy swimsuit.
Flipflops - A must for a visit to the Spa. If you’re walking around pool areas or changing rooms, having a pair of flip-flops to slip on rather than getting soggy feet all the time can be a more comfortable experience. Some Spa’s provide these, but it’s best not to assume and bring your own if you can.
Underwear - it might seem obvious but this is an easy one to forget if you arrive at the Spa with your swimwear on underneath your clothes! Always pack underwear, and maybe even a spare pair too.
Workout and comfortable clothes - Depending on what you’re going to be up to at the Spa, you might want to bring workout gear if you’re heading to the gym, or a set of relaxing clothes to sip into after having a massage or another treatment. After getting all relaxed, there’s nothing worse than putting on uncomfortable clothes.
It’s safe to say that most Spas will provide robes, towels and other amenities like hair dryers on site - but it’s always worth checking before visiting if you’re not sure.
- What Happens on Your Spa Day
Every spa experience will be a bit different, depending on where you go and what you have planned. However, there are a few basics you can expect when you arrive. Upon arrival, you can expect to have a warm welcome, check in and fill out some basic paperwork before being shown around the facilities, and heading off to get changed.
Your day will then kick off either with relaxing by the pool, or one of your treatments if you’ve booked one in or vice versa. By this point, you should be feeling relaxed and at ease, ready for a day of rejuvenation.
- Some Basic Spa Etiquette to Remember
Before visiting for the first time, a trip to the Spa can seem quite daunting. But rest assured, as long as you do a little bit of research beforehand there will be nothing to worry about.
Some basic things to remember about going to the Spa include putting your phone on silent or turning it off if you can, respecting others’ quiet time and not playing music too loudly or intruding on their personal space, you should also remember to shower before treatments because this not only keeps you fresh but opens up the pores of your skin and relaxes the muscles.
And it goes without saying - make sure to not include people in the background of your photos if you are taking them, but always adhere to the guidelines of the Spa you are visiting as many don’t allow photographs to be taken on-site at all.
By now, you should be feeling nice and prepared for your trip to the Spa! If you’re yet to get yourself booked in, make sure to check out all our latest Spa Deals for the best relaxing experiences up and down the country.
